DS21 Delivers Scalable Wastewater Solutions for Major Chemical Producer’s Complex Effluents
Eco-friendly project sees quick results in compliance, reliability, efficiency

Seo-Gu, Incheon, Korea (December 9, 2025) – DS21, a leader in the design and manufacturing of cutting-edge wastewater solutions in Korea and around the globe, has delivered comprehensive wastewater treatment systems for a major chemical producer’s complex effluents at its latest eco-friendly project.

In need of a comprehensive wastewater treatment solution to ensure operational reliability and meet regulatory and sustainability benchmarks, the chemical producer required a scalable, modular system with the integration of advanced treatment technologies, sludge handling, odor control and automated operation. To support the producer’s goal of revolutionizing plastic recycling and repurposing, DS21 was selected to deliver turnkey, fully integrated wastewater treatment systems at the cutting-edge facility.

Located at a production site in Asia, the project encompassed advanced material and chemical processing units, both of which generate complex and variable wastewater streams. These streams presented challenges such as fluctuating organic and inorganic loads, free oil, suspended solids, high COD/BOD concentrations and intermittent contaminants, including Reverse Osmosis (RO) eject and Cooling Tower (CT) blowdown.

DS21 engineered and delivered a customized, modular wastewater treatment solution designed to handle high variability in influent quality, maintain discharge compliance and optimize operational efficiency across multiple plant interfaces. Thanks to its compact size and modular nature, the system was optimized for limited space and future scalability. Components of the wastewater treatment system include:

  • Corrugated Plate Interceptor (CPI) Separators are used to remove free oil and settleable solids, significantly reducing the organic load on downstream processes
  • Hydraulic and load balancing involving dual equalization basins and plate heat exchangers
  • Advanced treatment with the Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) System and biological treatment
  • Odor control system
  • Integration into a Distributed Control System (DCS) for remote and local control via HMI panels, plus automation for equipment operated via VFDs or BLDC controls, with sensors and analyzers ensuring optimized performance

The systems combined advanced physical, chemical and biological treatment technologies to ensure compliance, reliability and efficiency. Since the system’s installation, the customer reports positive outcomes, including:

  • Regulatory compliance consistently achieves 80-90% removal of BOD and COD
  • Significant reduction of TSS and total nitrogen
  • Odor reduction
  • Sludge volume reduction
  • Reduced operator workload and enhanced reliability
